Very large plots will need something more than even an ordinary riding lawn mower or lawn tractor - a trail or gang mower. There are two basic differences between these Goliaths of the lawn-mowing world: Gang mowers - non-powered - pull behind, for grass only, gives an excellent finish on ornamental and functional lawns. Trail mowers - powered blades, can cut heavy and woody growth, not for ornamental or functional lawns. Both require a reasonably strong lawn tractor, ATV or agricultural tractor to pull them. Trail mowers use the lawn tractor to pull it only, they have either a gas engine of their own driving the blades, or the blades are powered from a agricultural tractor power take-off. Gang mowers use the power of the lawn tractor to pull them and also to power the blades via a gearing system using the movement of the wheels. |
