The easy to grow and very fragrant 'Imperialis' is a somewhat taller and improved variety. The 2 inch flower heads are thistle-looking and almost shine. Flower colors are shades of white, pink, purple, lavender, rose, red, yellow, and burgundy. Sweet Sultan blooms summer into early fall, mostly during the heat.Sweet Sultans prefer a full sun location. They prefer average soils with moderate fertility and are tolerant to drought. It was selected for its abundance of blossoms, vibrant colors, and hardiness in a variety of climates and soils. This daylily is carefree, pest resistant and free of daylily rust disease, which is outstanding! It will even grow under Black Walnut trees and along salted driveways. 'Chicago Apache' Daylily is a heavy feeder and likes a high nitrogen fertilizer. It is best to use a slow release fertilizer in the early spring when new growth first appears. Flower stems can be removed after blooming to encourage additional blooms. Vegetation can be cleaned up and discarded in late fall or early spring. Can be divided most any time of year and division is usually needed every 3-4 years for best performance.

Add these petite flowers to your rock garden for a burst of color. Best when in an organic, rich soil in semi-shade. Bulb size: 10-13 cm in circumference. This genus consists of about 15 species, all are native to the Mediterranean area. Cyclamen are easy to grow. They are noted for growing in unlikely places such as among tree roots and rocks, and it produces prolific flowers in autumn! After flowering, the leaves will stay green till the next spring before going dormant in the summer.These hardy Cyclamen plants form colonies in shade under trees and shrubs, in woodlands or gardens . Heart-shaped foliage, mottled with dark and silvery green. Plant corms with the flat side facing down. Both roots and leaves come from the top of corms. Be careful not to damage the small, twiggy protuberances, because they produce the flowers. Their soil must contain sufficient humus and be rich in calcium.

Herb - Lemon Grass

The Lemon Grass, Cymbopogon citratus, is a very fragrant grass and it is a versatile performer in the kitchen where it can be used in teas, beverages, herbal medicines, and Eastern inspired soups and other dishes. The leaves of this plant are used for many medicinal purposes. They can be dried and used in the making of Vietnamese and Thai curries. This tropical grass grows in dense clumps that can grow to 6 ft in height. The straplike leaves have gracefully drooping tips. The evergreen leaves are bright bluish-green and release a citrus aroma when crushed. It is the leaves that are used as flavoring and in medicine. They are steam distilled to extract lemongrass oil, an old standby in the the perfumer's palette of scents. Gardeners in subtropical areas will enjoy using lemongrass in beds and borders. It also does well in tubs and containers. If you live in a frosty area, you can enjoy it as an annual. You can also pot it up for the winter and keep it in a brightly lit area indoors.
