Kerria - Golden Guinea
Kerria Golden Guinea

The Golden Guinea Kerria, Kerria japonica 'Golden Guinea', is a tough, upright, rounded shrub that will brighten up your sun or shade border. It is a twiggy, deciduous shrub with double-toothed, corrugated foliage. 'Golden Guinea' has golden yellow, globe-shaped flowers that are borne from April through May. The interesting bright green stems stay green all winter. If grown in sun, it does prefer protection from late afternoon sun. Really effective planted around white barked aspen. Easily grown in average garden soils.

Kerria - Double Flowering Japanese
Kerria japonica 'Pleniflora'

Double Flowering Japanese Kerria, Kerria japonica 'Pleniflora', has showy, double, golden yellow flowers that bloom in early spring among bright green foliage. This open, fast growing shrub has yellow-green stems that add color to the winter landscape. It prefers a loamy, well-drained soil. Can be grown in sun or part shade, but does best in full sun. A good plant that has been used since pre-civil war times. Branches zig-zag at internodes and blooms for up to 2 months.

Kerria - Superba Japanese
Kerria japonica 'Superba'

Kerria japonica 'Superba', Kerria japonica 'Superba', exhibits single, golden yellow flowers that are produced in spring among the bright green foliage. The yellow-green stems add color to the winter landscape. This shrub forms a broad, rounded shape and tolerates shade well. The stems hold their green color in the winter so can provide some winter interest. The plant is considered to be generally easy to grow and so might be considered for tough sites. This deciduous shrub has an annual growth rate of more than 18 inches and gets 4-5 feet in height and width.

Beauty Bush
Kolkwitzia amabilis

Beautybush, 'Kolkwitzia amabilis', has pale pink bell-shaped flowers in early June that produce tan colored hairy seeds that remain into winter. The dark green summer foliage develops reddish fall color. This upright, arching shrub prospers in dry, sandy, poor soil. It is an arching, spreading shrub, with graceful hanging branches, reaching 8 feet tall, usually as wide as it is tall. Its bark is light brown that splits vertically and eventually peels and exfoliates.

Beauty Bush - Dream Catcher
Kolkwitzia amabilis 'Maradco'

The Beauty Bush Dream Catcher, 'Kolkwitzia amabilis 'Maracdo', is a wonderful shrub that is 6-9' tall. It should be planted in full sun to part shade and will adapt to many soils. Filtered shade will provide the best environment for the Dream Catcher. The unique color of golden orange flowers bloom early and hide for the rest of the year. This plant is a definite add to a perennial garden. 'Maradco' looks great even when not in bloom with golden yellow foliage that turns golden orange in fall. Use in containers, mixed beds and landscapes. 'Maradco' is also deer resistant.

Hydrangea - Kyushu
Kyushu Hydrangea

Hydrangea - Kyushu, Hydrangea paniculata 'Kyushu', is a panicle type hydrangea. It bears many lacy white panicle shaped flowers from mid summer to autumn and has lush, bright green foliage. 'Kyushu' is a large growing, vase-shaped, deciduous shrub or small tree that reaches a height of 15 feet to 25 feet tall and 10 feet wide. Its form is upright and texture is coarse. Mid-July flowers are white and turn pinkish to almost purple with age. ‘Kyushu’ holds its blooms later than other Hydrangeas. It prefers rich, loamy soil that is moist, but well-drained. Does well in full sun or part shade. Kyushu is most at home along the edge of a sunny wooded border or where the landscape is loose and informal.
