Walker Weeping Caragana

The Walker Weeping Caragana, Caragana arborescens 'Walker', is budded on a standard. This small tree has finely cut foliage for a fern-like appearance. Strongly weeping, Walker was developed at the Morden Research Station in Manitoba, Canada. An outstanding accent plant for limited areas, it bears bright yellow flowers in spring that are usually hidden by the leaves. This vigorous, twining vine has large, heart-shaped to rounded, dark green leaves. Walker Weeping grows flat against a trellis and offers a dense shade. Walker Weeping is an excellent small accent plant or specimen plant for tight areas. Its weeping branches and finely cut foliage gives it a unique appearance. Make this an outstanding special feature plant in your landscape!

White Sargents Crabtree

Sargents Crabtree - White, 'Malus sargentii White, is a dwarf form of M. sargentii reaching 5' in height and equal width often grafted on a 5' standard to form a specimen patio tree, or one that could be planted in a bed with foundation plants. It is known for its stunning flowers. The fragrant flowers bloom profusely in the spring, opening from the bud red in color and gradually fading through pink to white. This dwarf flowering tree is perfect for a wildlife garden, as its dark red berries are edible. The summer foliage of this deciduous tree is a dark green color. They can be planted as a specimen or patio tree, and have moderate water requirements and a moderate tolerance to salt and alkaline soils.

The Whitespire Birch, Betula populifolia ‘Whitespire’, is an Ed Hasselkus from the University of Wisconsin-Madison introduction with chalk-white bark that does not exfoliate. It is a deciduous tree with a strong central leader and has a distinctive and refined pyramidal form. It is considered more heat tolerant than other white-barked birches; therefore, it is often recommended for planting further south than most other white-barked birch trees. It is tolerant of most soil conditions and considered to be resistant to bronze birch borer. 'Whitespire' has a low canopy with a typical clearance of 4 feet from the ground, and isn't suitable for planting under power lines. It grows at a medium rate, and under ideal conditions, can be expected to live for approximately 40 years. 'Whitespire' Birch has a higher disease resistance than most other birches which makes this a preferred variety for home landscape use!

The Winter King Hawthorn, Crataegus viridis 'Winter King', introduced in 1955, provides white flowers that form against the lustrous green leaves. These are followed by red, 3/8 " fruit that stand out against Winter King's silvery frame. It fruits heavily when young and retains fruit throughout the winter. The silver-gray bark exfoliates with age, and when the leaves fall, this beautiful exfoliating bark is exposed. This tree proves its excellence by turning gold with traces of red and purple in autumn. It remains relatively free of pests and diseases such as scab and rust. Winter King works well in tight spaces so use as a hedge, single specimen, screen, or mass planting. If you want year-round interest in your garden or yard, this beautiful tree will not be disappointing!
