Jack Be Little is our favorite miniature pumpkin. Each pumpkin weighs only 1/4 lb. It easily fits into the palm of your hand, measuring 3" - 4" across and 2" high. It has a nice ribbed orange flesh, is edible, but works best as a fall decoration. Jack Be Little is a vine type plant. You can cure it on the vine and store it for up to a year, or cure like a gourd. The tasty flesh is as sweet as winter squash when cooked! Sow outdoors 2 to 3 weeks after last frost. Soil temperature should be at least 60 degrees. Plant one inch deep, 6 seeds per hill, and then space hills 4 to 6 feet apart. Later, thin to 3 plants per hill. Pumpkins love a sunny spot and the more sun the better. Choose a place that gets at least 6 hours of direct sunlight every day.
