Potatoes - Mid Season - Atlantic - Org

Atlantic Organic Potatoes are medium, uniformly-sized oval tubers with white, lightly netted skin and flesh. They have deep eyes and can get large, so three pound spuds are possible. Resistant to late blight and scab. Dependably high yields from large, vigorous, upright-growing plants. Good for Northern gardeners. Atlantic has an attractive appearance and make very tasty fries. Widely adapted, but not recommended for dry sandy soils. Moderate fertilization, close spacing between plants, and proper timing of overhead irrigation will prevent the production of oversized tubers that might have hollow heart.

Cal White Organic Potato is a long white-fleshed potato with brilliant white skin. It produces heavy yields of large potatoes. In fact, Cal White surprised many people by setting new records for potato yields in California tests. It has few tubers per plant and performs well in hot climates; may form heat sprouts under high soil temperatures. Good resistance to growth cracks, second growth, shatter bruises, hollow heart and heat necrosis. Thispotato is excellent for baking and French-frying. Good storability so store them in a cool, dark, dry, well-ventilated place. Don't refrigerate them--doing so converts some of the potato's starch to sugar. And don't expose them to direct sunlight, which turns them green and makes them bitter. Do not store any that are sprouting, green, that have any soft patches, or damage from harvesting etc.

Cherry Red Organic Potato has small to medium-sized tubers, bright medium to dark-red skin and attractive white flesh. This one is always a good producer and a heavy setter with a "nest" of potatoes, tightly clustered in one place. The potato plants are medium, semi-erect, have stems that are moderately pigmented, and have straight single wings with nodes moderately swollen. Cherry Red consistently sets 8 to 9 tubers per plant and are rather shallow in the hill. Tuberization occurs early and tubers bulk at a very rapid rate early in the season. Cherry Red has good storability with few problems and minimal sprouting. Don't refrigerate them--doing so converts some of the potato's starch to sugar. And don't expose them to direct sunlight, which turns them green and makes them bitter. They will keep about a one to two weeks at room temperature and for several weeks at 45 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

Kerr's Pink Organic Heirloom Potato is an old Irish variety introduced in 1917. The Kerr's Pink are round tubers with pink blushed beige skin, darker pink eyes of medium depth and white flesh. The flowers are white on this medium spreading plant. Kerr's Pink has a texture that the Irish call “floury”; that is, not really mealy like a russet, but drier than most varieties. This is a great salad potato but also used roasted, boiled, and since it’s delicately creamy, lends itself well to mashing. In Ireland, potatoes are never peeled ; but washed and put in water which is then brought to a boil. 2/3 of the water is then poured off and the potatoes are allowed to steam. Superb flavor! The stems are thick, prominently angled and finely mottled. Its leaflets are long, medium in width and light to medium green in color. The blossoms are few, white and not fertile.

This cultivar is not considered a long-term storage potato. It should be marketed by mid-March because tuber dehydration can result in pressure bruises and blackspot development.

Island Sunshine Organic Potato was developed in the PEI's. It originated from an open pollinated cross between "Irene" and an unknown male parent found by E. & G. Loo in Kensington, Prince Edward Island, in 1984. Its production may surpass Yukon Gold. The tubers do not "ramble" like Yellow Finns. Best described as "all purpose" and most resistant of all to late blight. The Island Sunshine plant is of medium height, spreading; stems weakly pigmented; wings not prominent; and medium to strongly swollen nodes. Island Sunshine is a medium to high yielding variety; good storability; long dormancy period. Store them in a cool, dark, dry, well-ventilated place. The Nooksack Organic Potato is oblong with russet skin and moist white flesh. It is well suited for frozen French fry production but can also be used in the fresh market. It is very good baked or mashed, stores well, and is disease-resistant. Nooksack was developed for high yields in coastal northwest Washington State. This potato grows well where the days are warm and the nights cool. The foliage is broad-leafed and attractive. It is known for heavy yields of excellent baking potatoes. Being an excellent keeper, store in a dark, cool and dry place.

Purple Majesty Organic Potato is an oblong, mid season potato with smooth dark purple skin. It is an almost solid purple inside unlike All Blue. This potato has a very good table quality and makes a great blue potato salad. Purple Majesty was developed last year by Colorado growers using natural cross-breeding techniques that somehow resulted in a superspud containing amazing high amounts of antioxidants, so this potato is actually very good for you! Purple Majesty's oblong tubers also make stunning chips or fries. It is resistant to most viruses, but susceptible to fusarium dry rot. Ideal for early market or summer eating; good for short-term storage only. Storing potatoes at a temperature of 45-50 degrees Fahrenheit, will encourage the longest length of dormancy.

The Red Thumb Organic Potato is somewhat new and rather rare with its one-of-a-kind brilliant-red skin and reddish-pink flesh. Cut a tuber in half and you can really see the thumb outlined in red color. The medium to long tubers have very shallow eyes and come out of the ground clean as a whistle. This fingerling is very uniformly shaped and produces prolific yields, and it isn't as starchy as some potato varieties. It is very well suited to the restaurant trade, and the uniformity of this particular potato makes it a favorite among chefs. Red Thumb potato is good for roasting, frying, or boiled. The Russian Banana Organic Potato was developed in the Baltic region of Northeastern Europe. It is a medium sized, yellow, banana-shaped, waxy-type tuber with a firm texture. It is great baked, boiled and steamed, so this makes Russian Banana an all purpose, excellent potato. Having heavy yields, this potato also has an excellent resistance to disease. This is a mainstay fingerling that is sold to lots of growers who supply the restaurant business. Store unwashed fingerlings at room temperature in a dark, cool, airy location, such as in a basket or open paper bag. Do not store in a sealed plastic bag.

Sangre Organic Potato has round to oblong tubers that maintain good red color for a long time in storage. This variety is especially useful for harvesting lots of new, early small potatoes. For Market Gardeners, this is an excellent variety. The remarkable thing about the Sangre is the incredible creamy texture of the flesh. Although it looks like a waxy potato, the Sangre is intermediate between a waxy and a starch potato. It has a medium and spreading vine, is a determinate type, produces lavender flowers, and has a moderate to shallow concentrated root system. Since its emergence is slow, make sure seed is warmed prior to planting. These round to oblong tubers maintain a strong red color for a long time in storage. Potato is a cool-season vegetable that ranks with wheat and rice as one of the most important staple crops in the human diet around the world.

Shepody Organic Potatoe consistently throw lunkers. It looks like a baker but with white skin. This potato is widely grown for french fries since it is the right shape and has the right moisture content. It is also good for boiling or baking. To win the prize at the fair, grow this one! It ranks number three in USA potato production. The Shepody is adapted for Canada's short growing season. Thanks to its high yield and relatively early maturing, the Shepody potato has captured a large part of North American french fry production. The Shepody had good storage quality, needs through-the-pile ventilation, and has high specific gravity. Store potatoes in dark, cool and dry place.

Organic Yukon Gold Early Season Potatoes

Yukon Gold Organic Potato is a smooth, round tuber with yellow skin and flesh, and has a pink coloring around its shallow eyes. The stems are purplish but are more green in the upper portion of the plant. This potato has an excellent flavor when baked, boiled or made into salads or fries; too moist for hash browns. If you like your fried potatoes golden brown, Yukon gold will almost turn that color by themselves! It is a moderate keeper, and drought-tolerant. The Yukon Gold potato is very popular and if you have never tried a yellow fleshed potato, this one is a must. Don't refrigerate them--doing so converts some of the potato's starch to sugar. And don't expose them to direct sunlight, which turns them green and makes them bitter. Store in a cool, dark, dry place. A root cellar, if you have one, is the best storage
