Walla Walla Long Day Onion

Long Day Walla Walla Onion is a variety that has been the pride of Washington State's onion-producing region for generations. On the Island of Corsica, a French soldier, Peter Pieri, found a sweet onion seed and brought it to the Walla Walla Valley. Walla Walla Onions have been developed over several generations through the process of carefully hand selecting onions from each year’s crop, ensuring exceptional sweetness, jumbo size, and round shape. This famous northwest gourmet sweet onion can be grown from seed. In long and intermediate day areas where temperatures do not drop below -10 degrees F, they can be planted between August 15 and September 1 and overwintered under a light mulch for harvest the following late June or early July. For colder areas it's best to raise seedlings and set out transplants in early to mid April. The Walla Walla is not a good storage onion.

Wando Shell Peas

Wando Shell Peas are the best pea for late sowing because they are the most tolerant of hot weather; heat and cold resistant. The best way to stretch the harvest is to plant early and late varieties, so plant Wando and you will also get a late, sweet, and plentiful harvest. Wando produces large peas in blunt 3 ½" pods on 2 ½' tall plants. Being a sturdy plant, it also pollinates well under cooler conditions. Direct-sow in early spring, again in midsummer for a fall crop. Plant the seeds 1½ inches deep spacing them at a rate of one to two seeds every two inches. Space the rows 2½ feet apart. Wando gives an outstanding winter crop in Zones 9-11.

Wee Be Little Pumpkins

Wee Be Little Pumpkin is the perfect miniature pumpkin. These adorable little pumpkins are ideal for carving and kids love them! Each one has a smooth orange flesh that is slightly ribbed; average weight is only 1/2 lb. Since Wee Be Little is nice and compact and produced on a bush, it takes up less space than the big, rambling types. This is an ideal pumpkin for the smaller garden. The flesh is thick, tasty and sweet, making Wee Be Little great for pumpkin muffins, breads or pies, and they store especially well. It is a 1999 All America Selection winner. Pumpkins need sun and humus-rich soil to produce healthy plants. Seeds can be planted directly in the garden when the days consistently reach into the low 70's, and the spring rains have tapered off.
