The Japgarden Juniper, J. procumbens, is a gracefully spreading juniper with a robustly textured habit sporting a beautiful bluish green color. It is a spreading, prostrate shrub with long, stiff branches, non-showy flowers, and seldom produces fruit. It is an excellent ground cover and rock garden accent. Prune 'Japgarden' in June after the new growth has time to establish. With most evergreens it is easy to remember "Prune in June". Juniper Kallays Compact
The Kallays Compact Juniper, J. chinensis 'Kallays Compact', is a dwarf, shrubby, pfitzer-type juniper that typically grows to only 3 tall but spreads to 6 wide with horizontally-spreading branching that forms a somewhat flat top. Foliage is attractive year round and fragrant when crushed. 'Kallays' is easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. It is tolerant of a wide variety of soils including clay, wet soils, and some drought once established. Also tolerant of many city air pollutants. Use in rock gardens, foundations and as a low hedge.

Juniper Mini Arcade
The Mini Arcade Juniper, J. sabina 'Mini Arcade', is a compact selection of 'Arcadia' with excellent, feathery foliage. 'Mini Arcade' is lower and more spreading than 'Arcadia'. It displays a soft green color throughout the seasons and is tolerant of partial shade. 'Mini Arcade' is a moderate grower. The layered branching habit of this plant gives the subtle appearance of soft undulations in the ground beneath it. 'Mini Arcade' would serve nicely in a small Zen garden, with it's ability to suggest a forest of undulating green. This juniper does well in dry soils that are well drained, and it needs to have partial to full sun exposure.

Juniper - Sargent
Juniper Sargent
The Sargent Juniper, Juniperus chinensis 'Sargentii Viridis', is a rich green spreading evergreen that forms a dense carpet. The color of the foliage is consistent through the winter. The nice green color has just a hint of blue to it. This juniper makes an excellent ground cover and withstands heat and salt. It has long creeping "feeler" type branches that reminds you of starfish legs. 'Sargent' is a very hardy juniper and displays wind and drought tolerance. 'Sargent' does not get out of control and is fairly low maintenance. Use as a mid-level ground cover or in foreground plantings. It likes well drained soils like most all junipers.

Juniper Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Juniper, Juniperus horizontalis 'Wisconsin', is an outstanding low-growing juniper introduced by the University of Wisconsin. It has dark blue-green summer foliage that has a feathery appearance. It is nicely uniform and full with a plum winter color. 'Wisconsin' Junipers have two opposite, mostly small, scale-like and tightly appressed leaves at each node of the twig. There is usually a light-colored stripe along the length of the top surface of each leaf. Prune Junipers in June after the new growth has time to establish. With most evergreens it is easy to remember "Prune in June".

The Juniper Andorra Compacta, 'Juniperus 'Andora Compacta', is an excellent groundcover with its compact dense foliage. The Andorra Compacta displays four season interest with the bright green new growth in spring, the deep green color in the summer, the bronze-green color in the fall, and the unique bronze-purple winter color. The Andorra Compacta Juniper is used as a foundation plant, in rock gardens, and as a ground cover. Prune in the early summer if shaping is needed.

Maney Juniper, Juniperus chinensis 'Maneyi', is a semi-erect juniper that has an attractive blue cast to its foliage, along with gray-green berries in summer. It has a horizontal layered, irregular habit. This is one of the hardiest medium-sized evergreens and makes an excellent choice for any landscape planting. Maney Juniper has a handsome appearance and is medium sized for any planting. It is a fast grower and has excellent cold tolerance. Requires a well drained soil in a sunny location, adaptable to different soil pH; tolerates fairly alkaline soils and prefers full sun to part shade. The Blue Rug is so named because of its silver-blue color and low growing habit. Blue Rug will do well in almost any well drained soil and needs moderate moisture. This is the lowest growing of all Juniper plants and they will even cascade over walls. Prune young shoots to encourage branching, but older branches may not produce new growth.

Eastern Red Cedar

The Eastern Red Cedar, Juniperus Virginiana, is a small to medium-sized aromatic evergreen tree. Typically, the trunk is straight and the tree has a pointed, dense, conical crown that may be varied or irregular, depending on ecotype or competing vegetation. The fruit, or cone, is berrylike and dark blue. Birds devour the fruit. Eastern Red Cedar trees can grow on a variety of soils. Its deep roots and small leaf surface make it very drought resistant. It is the primary species in most windbreaks. The wood of the Red Cedar is fragrant and is used extensively for furniture. The foliage is bright green to dark green.
