Weigela - Fine Wine™, Weigela florida 'Bramwelll' PPAF, is an improved selection of Weigela Wine & Roses® that is more compact, hardier and darker in color. Its foliage color is similar to that of a fine wine, nice and dark burgundy, like a cabernet. Fine Wine™ is perfect for a large container or in the perennial border because of its tight and upright habit. The hot-pink flowers are extremely vibrant when set against the dark burgundy foliage, and with slight shearing, they will re-bloom throughout the summer. Hummingbirds love the bright, tubular flowers! Plant in full sun for best color. Fine Wine is extremely adaptable, but prefers well-drained soils. Hydrangea - Forever Pink, Hydrangea macrophylla 'Forever Pink', is a bigleaf hydrangea cultivar that is part of the hortensia or mophead group. It is a compact, deciduous shrub with a rounded habit which typically grows 3' tall. Forever Pink features clusters of pink or blue florets in large, rounded, 4" to 5" heads which bloom in June for up to two months. Best grown in rich, medium moisture, well-drained soil in part shade. It tolerates full sun only if grown with constant moisture. Soil pH affects flower color . Add aluminum sulfate to soil to make flowers bluer, or add lime to soil to make flowers pinker. Group or mass Forever Pink in a sheltered location of the shrub border. Also a good specimen or accent for protected locations near homes or patio.

Azalea - Formosa

The Azalea, Formosa, Azalea indica 'Formosa', is a spring blooming plant with evergreen foliage. This Azalea has an upright growth habit and is the best choice for a high light area. The Formosa has beautiful magenta deep colored flowers that grow profusely during the spring. It can get up to 6-8 feet in height and does best on acidic soils. Plant in acid soil in filtered sunlight or light shade, although plants tolerate full sun in cool-summer areas. Use soil rich in organic matter, which retains water and drains quickly. Never prune after mid-summer because those branches produce the next season's flowers.

Arnold Dwarf Forsythia, Forsythia 'Arnold Dwarf', is an excellent dwarf groundcover type shrub. It flowers profusely in early spring before the leaves appear. The dark green summer foliage develops a bronze-green fall color. Arnold is a smaller size forsythia that provides both late winter color in the landscape and cut branches for indoor bloom when flowers are scarce. It tolerates most soils and prefers full sun for best bloom, but will tolerate partial shade. If allowed to arch to ground, the branches will root and spread. Forsythia makes excellent erosion control, especially on slopes. To keep in it's smallest form, trim to ground after bloom to encourage new growth and more flowers the next year. A moderately fast grower, this makes a desirable border shrub in the landscape. This excellent groundcover, rerooting as it spread, matures at a height of 3' with a mature spread of 4-6'. Plant in full sun in moist, well-drained soil. This can be grown in a container.

Allow plants to develop for the first three years with minimal pruning. Once plants are established prune in midspring after flowering by thinning out crowded stems from the center of the shrub.
