The Black Bat Flower, 'Tacca chantrieri', is a very unusual species with black bat shaped flowers up to 12" across, and long 'whiskers' that can grow up to 28". Tacca chantrieri grow wild in the tropical forest in Yunnan Province, China, where they can get as tall as 36". These beautiful flowers grow best in well-drained soil and high humidity. They like shade, and good air circulation. They don't like too much heat and air that is too dry. They will flower year around.

Creeping Thyme, Thymus praecox 'Coccineus', has lovely scented foliage that creates a low growing mat that is covered with hundreds of rosy-red flowers in summer. A strong grower, 'Coccineus' is ideal as a drought tolerant lawn substitute, or for planting between flagstones, tolerating moderate traffic. 'Coccineus' is easily grown in average, dry to medium, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerates drought and poor soils or somewhat low fertility. Loose, sandy or rocky soils with excellent drainage are best. It will also add elegance to mixed beds or pots when allowed to trail over the edges. Creeping thyme is easily divided in spring or early fall, and even small pieces will take root and grow. Attractive to butterflies.

The Thyme Platycodon grandiflorum, was believed to possess magical powers by the ancient Druids. Maybe that explains why consumers seem unable to resist these particularly choice varieties. This dainty creeping variety with its light purple flowers, yellow-flecked green foliage, and lemony scent has saved many a strawberry pot from early retirement.</p<This dwarf variety has star-shaped purple flowers and glossy foliage. It tolerates light shade or full sun.

The Thyme 'Thymus citriodorus aureus', was believed to possess magical powers by the ancient Druids. Maybe that explains why consumers seem unable to resist these particularly choice varieties. This small bushy shrublet is characterized by the intense lemon scent of its foliage. Gold dappled leaves are the base for a summer bloom of lavender pink flowers. Similar in color and fragrance to Doone Valley but with a semi-trailing habit. Gorgeous when spilling out of primary-colored containers or window boxes.

Thyme - Mother of Thyme

The Thyme 'Thymus ‘Mother of Thyme’, Thymus serpyllum, is a fast growing evergreen, ground cover with sweet aroma. Pink to purple blossoms appear in the summer, with a plant height of 8” and a spread of 12-24”. ‘Mother of Thyme’ should be planted in full sun, tolerating some morning shade, in a well-drained area. It does well in dry soils, but prefers a moist location. ‘Mother of Thyme’ is perfect for rock gardens, near stones or bricks, or along pathways. It is a favorite to honeybees and has been used in decongestants, as an antiseptic, cough remedy and a digestive aid.

The Thyme Common, 'Thymus vulgaris', is a herb for cooks who don't know which herb to use. Thyme will go with almost anything. Thyme is a very elegant, small garden shrub. Plant a hedge of thyme around your herb or vegetable garden. The small plant with 1/4 inch leaves and delicate, edible flowers, appearing in early summer, is also a lovely 12 inch landscape plant. This excellent ornamental is great in rock gardens, edging, small borders and small hedges.The use of Thyme in culinary pursuits is extensive. Thyme plays a part in many French dishes and is great with fish, poultry, vegetables, mushrooms, omelets, soups, bean and lentil casseroles, rice, and seafood chowders. Thyme is easy to grow from seed. Plant Thyme in warm, light, loose, and well drained soil. Thyme should be planted in the spring, 2 weeks after the last average frost date.

These fully hardy, ornate beauties resemble orchids. They are great for part or full shade in the border or as part of a woodland garden. They flower in autumn so they will bring a welcome splash of color to even dark shady spots.

The Toad Lily Mix, 'Tricyrtis', is a delightful mix of these extremely hardy and low-maintenance perennials. The Trollius Golden Queen, 'Trollius', is also known as the "globe flower". This lovely perennial has a warm, golden -yellow color with buttercup-shaped petals. Perfect for borders, the Golden Queen' loves moist conditions, so it is perfect for bog gardens and watersides. If you cut back the flower stems after flowering, it will reward you with a second flush of blooms later in the season. Hardy and trouble-free, Golden Queen Trollius will give you years of joy. Prefers sun to part shade.

They provide fast color to beds, planters, and patio pots. Whirlybird Mix flowers from June through September. The flowers are shades of rose, tangerine, mahogany, scarlet, and gold. Both the bright flowers and leaves are edible and delicious.
