Redmond Linden

The Redmond Linden, 'Tilia americana 'Redmond', is a valuable tree for street planting. Redmond has the largest leaves of the Lindens and its dense foliage is glossy green with bright yellow autumn color. Voted 2000 Urban Tree of the Year by the Society of Municipal Arborists. The tree is pyramidal when young but develops into a striking specimen with an upright, oval canopy atop a tall, straight trunk. The lower branches on the species remain on the tree and gently drape toward the ground before sweeping up in a gentle curve. In June, the trees produce abundant, two to three-inch wide clusters of very fragrant, light yellow blooms which are extremely attractive to bees.

Elm - Regal
Regal Elm

The Regal Elm, Ulmus 'Regal', has large dark-green glossy leaves. It has an upright character, transplants well, and will tolerate a wide range of conditions. 'Regal' Elm develops a strong central leader with an upright or columnar growth habit when young, becoming more ovate with age. Its leaves are dark green in summer, and show no appreciable fall coloration. Because the leaves are rather sparsely borne, they cast a honeylocust-like light shade that makes possible the successful culture of turfgrass in the vicinity of the tree. ‘Regal’ is considered highly resistant to DED and verticillium wilt. It’s a good urban tree since it is highly resistant to Dutch elm disease. It has proved very tolerant of hot and arid conditions, exhibiting minimal leaf scorch. 'Regal' has an upright columnar form similar to 'Commelin', making it particularly suitable for street planting.

Black Locust
Robinia pseudoacacia

The Black Locust tree, Robinia pseudoacacia, is sometimes called the yellow locust. Black Locust trees grow naturally on a wide range of sites but does best on rich moist limestone soils. It has escaped cultivation and become naturalized throughout eastern North America and parts of the West. Black locust is not a commercial timber species but is useful for many other purposes.This deciduous tree is a nitrogen fixer and has rapid juvenile growth. It is widely planted as an ornamental, for shelterbelts, and for land reclamation. This fast growing Locust tree is suitable for fuel wood and pulp and provides cover for wildlife, browse for deer, and cavities for birds. It is a very thorny tree which can attain a height of 70-80 feet and can have a diameter of 2-3 feet. The flowers are white, fragrant, and hang in clusters. The individual leaves are small and egg-shaped.

Royal Red Maple

The Royal Red Maple, Acer platanoides 'Royal Red', is a Norway Maple selection that is similar to 'Crimson King', but with a somewhat slower growth rate, and what some consider, slightly better color. Royal Red is also less vigorous and less prone to frost cracks. A dense shade tree, it has a straight trunk with a well-shaped canopy, and it has a crown which is originally conical before becoming broadly round. Royal Red's glossy foliage is an excellent maroon red all season. It is heat tolerant and moderately drought resistant once established. Plant in full sun to partial shade in average well-drained soil. Adaptable to various soil conditions and is great as a shade or specimen tree. It does well on most soil types and tolerates air pollution.
